The 1938-S Texas Centennial Commemorative Half Dollar was issued as part of the multi-year program honoring the 100th anniversary of Texas independence. Designed by sculptor Pompeo Coppini, the coin features a powerful and symbolic design. The obverse depicts the winged figure of Victory standing before the The Alamo, accompanied by the portraits of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. The reverse displays a majestic eagle perched before a large star representing Texas, along with the six flags that have flown over the state.

This example is graded MS66 by Professional Coin Grading Service, placing it solidly in the Gem category with exceptional luster and well-preserved surfaces. PCGS reports 392 examples at this grade with 222 graded higher, demonstrating solid demand among collectors building high-grade commemorative type sets. Originally sold by Heritage Auctions in 2016, the coin realized $470 at auction. With strong eye appeal and a historic connection to the Texas Centennial celebration, the 1938-S issue remains one of the most widely collected classic U.S. commemorative half dollars.
