1927 Buffalo Nickel, old NGC holder, MS62 CAC:
The 1927 Buffalo Nickel, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, carries James Earle Fraser’s timeless design—an iconic Native American portrait on the obverse and a rugged American bison on the reverse. By the late 1920s, the design had already become a fixture in American pockets, though full, well-struck Mint State survivors are scarcer than the mintage might suggest due to the series’ tendency for weak detail, especially in the bison’s horn and tail.
This NGC MS62 example, housed in an older-generation holder and approved by CAC, offers attractive luster and bold central detail for the grade. The surfaces are pleasingly original, with light abrasions consistent with the grade but no major distractions, and the strike is above average for the date. Collectors will appreciate not only the coin’s historic charm but also its combination of early holder appeal and CAC’s seal of quality.
